“ Love the coffee bar. Decent breakfast and service with a smile ”
“ 9/27/2023. This little local cafe is truly one of a kind. Literally one of the best breakfasts, I've had traveling for years. American fries done perfectly for my liking, but most importantly there was no grease taste to them. Oh and Blackberry preserves, always a plus for me. Cafe was full of locals enjoying breakfast and conversations. The owner was on the grill, which is open to watch. They recognize local suppliers, love that touch. I would drive out of my way to return. ”
“ I'm not sure if a better breakfast exists, anywhere! And as a bonus, sometimes it is a lot like a remake of Grumpy Old Men..... you just never know what someone might say next. ”
“ Small Town diner. Apparently Barack Obama ate here in 2011. Food was delicious! Good size portions. Great prices! Service was good! Clean restroom. ”
“ OMG!!! Breakfast and pie is fabulous !! Must go!! ”
“ This is a must stop experience. When you think of homemade and family — this is that experience. Everything made to order with self serve hot coffee. A historic Phillips 66 Service station turned into a classic local flavor diner experience. Can’t say enough good about this place. ”
“ A fun place to eat. We were treated to a lunch from a local car dealer who raved about this place. To our surprise it was really good and very affordable. The cafe is located in what was a service station. A very simple kitchen worked by a chef with excellent cooking skills. Their burgers are big and tasty. Homemade pies and cakes adorn the daily menu with the atmosphere small and friendly. This place boosts the fact that Barack Obama held a press conference there during his presidential campaign and had the pics to prove it. I highly recommend stopping by if in Gutenberg Iowa for lunch or dinner. ”
“ We left home today without any breakfast and was driving through Guttenburg, Iowa. Throughout my travels I am always looking for a locally owned business to support. Boy did we pick a Winner! My wife and I walked in and looked around for seating and decided to sit at the counter. I was figure if you want to much about a place and its surroundings this is the place to listen. After some conversations with locals and the cook(who happened to be the owner Sue) I decided to jump in the conversation. We were deciding what to order and then we saw what local regular Pete ordered. That was enough for us to order(ShipWreck Omelet ) the same thing plus one pancake. It was delicious!! Well made and very tasty. The pancake put us over the top. Can you see “please”no more. Only Sue and her one employee were working and this place got really busy. (It’s the great food). First Pete’s wife Michelle jumped into help and then my wife Patti jumped in as us men cheered them on. That’s what we love in our travels. Supporting locals and helping out anyway we can. We are so blessed Sue let us help her out. She is a fun, caring person and stressed many times that her customers are family even though no one is related. Doesn’t that say a lot about her! Her helper Libby was also great. She took out order and lots of service with a smile. The only thing is her math did not add up. That’s an inside joke. We could not leave there without taking a picture with these two hard working women. Thanks for letting us have and amazing experience. All our love from DBQ, IA. Jorge and Patti Rangel. Next time I will order that amazing looking French toast!! ”
